Font Pairing Project:

Date: 11/6/2017

What does it mean to create a font pairing?

Creating a font pairing means to use two different fonts together using one of many strategies. (E.x. Skinny and Fat, Fancy and Simple)

What are the four assignments you chose to do? Write the name of the assignment and describe your design for each.

Location

I used the combination of script and a plain font to potray Morgantown, WV, home of West Virginia University and used a photo of the football field in the background.

Kindness is Magic

I used a fancy font and a plain font to place emphasis on "Magic", I used grayscale colors on a white background to create a simplistic vibe.

Famous Quote

I used color, size, and font choice to place emphasis on the "100%".

You can do anything...

I used a block style font and a script font to allow the "Everything" and "Anything" to stand out over the other words.

Which assignment would you say is your BEST font pairing and why?

I'd say the "You can do anything..." font pairing is the best because the complexity of the font used for the smaller, non-important words makes the simple font of the important words pop out and allow the simpler font to be the focus of the pair.

Which assignment would you say is your Least Successful font pairing and why?

I'd say the "Famous Quote" pairing is least successful because a lot of the words are in the same font. I still believe the font pairing was strong nonetheless.

How would you describe the font pairing process? What makes a font pairing so difficult?

The font pairing process involves discovering combinations of fonts that contrast and stand appealing next to each other. Font pairing is difficult because it takes a lot of trial and error to find that perfect pair.
